Why Thailand is harder than Vietnam or Cambodia
Thailand's government and many international schools structure hiring around a defined list of native-speaker passport countries, largely because of how the Ministry of Education and work permit rules are written. This makes the largest, best-paying school contracts hard to access for non-native applicants.
Smaller private language academies and tutoring centres, especially in Bangkok and Chiang Mai, have more flexibility and sometimes hire non-native teachers directly, particularly for business English, exam prep, or younger learner conversation classes where fluency and energy matter more than passport.
